EDMONTON — Doubleheaders have not been kind to the Salt Lake Stingers this season. Thursday's twinbill looked no different, as the Edmonton Trappers claimed Game 1, 3-1, but the Stingers bounced back to take the nightcap, 5-1.

The Stingers broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning of Game 2 when Tom Gregorio led off with an infield single and took second on a wild pitch by Jeremy Fikac. He moved to third on a ground out before Zach Sorensen walked. Fikac (5-4) had Sorensen picked off, but first baseman Luis Ortiz threw the ball into left field and that allowed Gregorio to score the go ahead run.

Brian Gordon would give Salt Lake some breathing room with a two-run homer in the sixth and Dallas McPherson would close out the scoring with an RBI double, his third double of the game. Derrick Turnbow allowed just one run in four innings in his second start of the season, but Brandon Emanuel (5-8) gets credit for his fifth straight win.

The Trappers grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning of Game 1 on a run-scoring ground out by Valentino Pascucci and an RBI single by Matt Cepicky. After the Stingers closed to within one run in the second inning on an RBI single by Gordon, Pascucci delivered a run scoring double in the third.

Steve Green (5-17) went the distance, but suffered his tenth straight loss, despite allowing just three runs on four hits. Seung Song (3-1) gave up just one run on six hits with nine strikeouts in 5 2/3 for the win.
