FARMINGTON — A judge has set Dec. 6 as the date for a one-day trial for Sandra Wariner, 57, the Bountiful teacher who is accused of threatening others regarding a gun at school.

Wariner is charged with one count of making a terroristic threat, a second-degree felony, after she allegedly told two teachers and the principal at Bountiful Junior High School that she would bring a loaded shotgun to school and shoot the principal and others if she did not get a new position, according to court documents.

Wariner allegedly made the remark May 27.

Her attorney, Nathan Pace, said Wednesday that Wariner is innocent of the charge and longs to return to the teaching career that she loves.

"She loves her students, she loves her job, she would never hurt a flea," Pace said. "She's devoted her whole life to teaching."

There have been negotiations regarding a plea agreement, but so far it appears nothing has emerged that both prosecutors and defense attorneys can agree on.

Wariner, who currently is not working, hopes to return to to the classroom after this matter is resolved, Pace said.

He previously noted that Wariner has undergone a number of personal and health difficulties in recent years including the death of her husband, a bout with breast cancer, knee replacement surgery and coping with osteoarthritis in both knees.
