Dollar DVDs are at least worth a buck

Then I get ready to go on vacation and I need to come up with a column for the week I'll be gone . . . suddenly it seems more important.

So here it is.

I asked the question in my review of the third Abbott & Costello eight-movie: Does Universal Home Video have enough material to come up with a fourth set? After all, I wrote, all that's left are "Abbott & Costello Meet the Keystone Kops" and one that's already on DVD, "Abbott & Costello Meet the Mummy." (Not counting "It Ain't Hay," which has never been on video, reportedly due to a dispute over music rights.)

But, I was wrong.

I was forgetting a third "A&C Meet . . ." movie: "Abbott & Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde," co-starring Boris Karloff. And there's yet another film that Universal owns, a compilation of clips from other movies titled "The World of Abbott & Costello," which was released in 1965.

That's four. So maybe a one-disc fourth volume is possible after all.

OK, not very important.

But hey, it filled out the column.
