The Salt Lake City Council tabled most of Mayor Rocky Anderson's proposed revisions to the city's taxicab ordinances Tuesday.
The move makes it unlikely the taxicabs will be able to petition the City Council to raise their rates this year as they had wanted.
The council passed some housekeeping portions of the ordinance revisions but failed to act on many of the revision's controversial points, like allowing cabs to operate less in the slow summer months while operating more in the peak winter months. Council members sent the ordinance back to Anderson's staff for more work.
Among the points the council is unsure about is whether the city should make outside shuttle companies schedule fares 45 minutes in advance. Anderson and the cab companies want the 45 minute rule to allow cab companies to compete for hotel service.
Still, several representatives of the city's hotels said they were dissatisfied with the city's stock of dirty cabs and late cab drivers.
