Monday at the Games
Bulgaria's Milen Dobrev lived up to his top seeding and took the gold medal in the 207-pound (94 kg) division of the Olympic weightlifting tournament.
Dobrev, the reigning world champion, made clean lifts on each of his first five tries. He failed on his sixth and final attempt but just laughed and kissed the weights, knowing his total of 898 pounds already had clinched first place.
Junior world champion Khadjimourad Akkaev, a 19-year-old Russian, took silver with a total of 893 pounds. Fellow Russian Eduard Tjukin got the bronze.
Utah connection
Jazz signee Carlos Boozer scored 11 points and grabbed 9 rebounds as the U.S. men's basketball team routed Angola 89-53.
University of Utah center Andrew Bogut had 21 points and 9 rebounds in Australia's 100-85 loss to Lithuania.
Jazz point guard Carlos Arroyo scored 10 points and dished out 4 assists and former Jazzman Jose Ortiz had 2 points and a steal in Puerto Rico's 78-58 loss to Greece.
Diver Justin Wilcox of Smithfield finished in 32nd place with 225.87 points.
Former BYU athlete Ryan Millar scored 9 points and had 2 blocks as the U.S. volleyball team defeated Brazil 3 games to 1.
Weather
The temperature at the main Olympic complex reached 89 degrees under clear skies. Tuesday's forecast called for more sunshine and a high of 88.
Quote of the day
"I've never seen a white man run that fast. It was a blazing race, man. The kid is good." Grenada's Alleyne Francique, who placed fourth in the 400, on the effort by Wariner, who is white.

Medal's haul
The six women's gymnastics medals for the United States surpassed the five won in 1992 and made the Athens squad the most successful U.S. team in a non-boycotted Olympics. The Americans won eight in 1984, led by all-around champion Mary Lou Retton.
