Orem teen gets stuck in cave

A 16-year-old youth on a spelunking adventure with a group of friends ended up stuck upside down and twisted in the Nutty Putty Cave area on Friday afternoon.

About 20 Utah County search and rescue volunteers were still working to remove the Orem boy at press deadline, Sgt. Spencer Cannon of the sheriff's department said. The youth was the lead in a group of teens exploring the cave that goes down into the ground. The cave is about seven miles west of U-68 on the west side of Utah Lake.

The teen was in good condition, just stuck, Cannon said. An ambulance was on standby.

"We'll get him out," he said. "Worst-case scenario we'll have to go in and chip out some rock."
