Utah connections

• Three former Salt Lake minor league baseball players took part in Canada's 2-0 win over Greece. Jeff Guiel, playing left field, and right fielder Ryan Radmanovich both went 1-for-4 for the victorious Canadians. Clay Bellinger, a former Stinger, went 0-for-4 for Greece. Canadian pitcher, Eric Cyr, another former Stinger, didn't play.

• Former Highland High star Logan Tom and her USA volleyball teammates lost a tough match to the Dominican Republic, 26-24, 22-25, 27-25, 23-25, 19-17. Tom had 16 kills to go along with a team-best three blocks.

• Two BYU Cougars, Gary Tan of Singapore and Diogo de Oliveir Yabe of Brazil, swam in the men's 200-meter individual medley. Tan placed 7th in his heat in a time of 2:08.44, while Yabe was sixth in his heat (2:03.86). Neither advanced to the semifinals.

Heather Moody, of Green River, Wyo., scored a goal for the USA's women's water polo team, but the Americans lost to Canada, 6-5.

• Three former Utah Starzz played in women's basketball games Wednesday. Elena Baranova scored six points with three rebounds and four fouls in Russia's 77-67 win over Brazil. Michaela Pavlickova of the Czech Republic had two points and four boards in her country's 98-83 loss to China. Elisa Aguilar scored eight points in her Spanish team's 91-57 victory over New Zealand.

Mostly sunny skies at the Olympic Stadium with a midday high of 90 degrees. Thursday's forecast called for sunshine and a high of 92.
