Angels win 5th straight

GREAT FALLS, Mont. — The Provo Angels led from start to finish and cruised to an 8-3 win over the Great Falls White Sox on Monday. Provo (14-4) pounded out 12 hits, while the Angel pitching staff allowed only five hits by Great Falls (12-7).

Billy Layman picked up the win, allowing four hits and striking out six in five innings. Chris Waters and Ricardo Requena combined to fan seven and allow only two hits over the remaining four innings.

J.R. Renz led the Angels with three hits,and Tim Duff and Andrew Toussaint each had two hits, one being a home run.

The Angels jumped on Great Falls early by scoring three runs in the first and third innings to lead 6-1.

Richard Giannotti led off the first inning with a double to left field.

Billy Boyer was then hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. Caleb Maher singled home Giannotti to put Provo on top 1-0.

One batter later Duff doubled to center, scoring Boyer, and increasing the lead to 2-0. Renz singled home Duff to give Provo the 3-0 lead.

Great Falls scored two in the fifth, but the Angels countered with two in the seventh to seal the 8-3 win.

The Angels have won five straight games and play the second of the four-game series tonight at Great Falls.
