TV ratings

For the second straight night, NBC's prime-time viewership was down in comparison with Sydney in 2000. Saturday night's telecast, the first night of competition, drew 20 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research. The second night of Sydney had 21 million.

Weather

Greece's notorious Meltemi wind, with 20-mph currents and 32-mph gusts, capsized at least 30 boats in sailing competition and blew over fences along cycling's road course. It also helped two American rowing teams set world records.
