More than 1,000 people are expected to attend today's public memorial service for Lori Hacking.

A collection of pictures and keepsakes from Lori's life, including some of her scrapbooks, will be on display in the Relief Society room, said David Gehris, a neighbor of Lori's mother, Thelma Soares, who has been acting as family spokesman.

The stake center has seating for 1,000 people in the extended chapel area. An overflow area in a multipurpose room also will be available, and audio from the service will be broadcast into a nearby chapel about 100 yards away.

Gehris said he expected the overflow areas would be used, for organizers said they were preparing for a very large crowd of family, friends and well-wishers including people who didn't even know Lori.

All members of the Hacking and Soares families were expected to attend the ceremony. In a sign of unity, the two families said they would be sitting side by side during the ceremony, Gehris said.

Doug Hacking, Mark's father, is expected to deliver the invocation. Lori's brother, Paul Soares, is scheduled to read a tribute.

The ceremony also is expected to include an original musical composition by one of Lori's cousins, a poem reading by her half-brother and remarks from Elder W. Grant Bangerter, emeritus member of the Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Friends will begin gathering at the LDS Windsor Stake Center, 60 E. 1600 North, Orem at 9:30 a.m. The public service is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
