Do you know how many meters there are in the state of Utah? If this is happening to schools, it's happening to businesses, it's happening to residents, it's happening to everyone. And I bet you can't find one in 100 residents who bothers to audit their power bill or utility bills. And if they did, they also would be able to recover errors.Bill McLeod, Granite Energy Management coordinator

To be quite honest, we see some problems, but they're not common. It's not an endemic issue ... probably one in 10.Patti Case, vice president of ETC Group a private engineering firm that does energy efficiency work

I get really frustrated with the power company sometimes, but I've done this long enough to know the games.Duane Devey, director of energy and utility resources, Jordan School District

These are situations ... have been brought to your attention through careful audits. ... I hope to assure our customers, residential and commercial, we go to great lengths to ensure the accuracy of their billing ... (but) sometimes, energy billing can be confusing.Darren Shepherd, Questar spokesman

If these kinds of errors are occurring, even in the small school districts, we don't want that ... affecting school budgets or depriving students.Julie Orchard, Public Service Commission spokeswoman

It's an ongoing problem. They politically try to make things right . . .but the problems go on.Paul Barnes, director of utility services, Davis School District

I think there are certainly some billing errors that do occur. I think they are relatively few in number. If you look at our system overall, our billing accuracy is 99.7 percent. But particularly with the school system, they have a more complex billing structure than many customers.David Eskelsen, Utah Power spokesman

If we all mind the store a little better, we all gain.Maloy Hales, energy manager, Weber School District
