OREM A judge has sentenced the son of the Republican candidate for lieutenant governor to six months probation on an infraction charge of disorderly conduct.
Nathan G. Herbert, 33, entered a no contest plea to the infraction on Aug. 3 and was sentenced by 4th District Judge John Backlund. The judge also ordered Herbert to pay a $325 fine and to pay for any counseling required by the victim.
Herbert was cited Feb. 21 for disorderly conduct after he was allegedly observed by two University Mall security officers looking at a girl with his hand in his pocket, touching himself, Orem Police Lt. Doug Edwards said.
Herbert allegedly tried to evade a security officer, and there was a brief foot chase across the mall parking lot. He has been ordered to stay out of several areas in the mall while he is on probation.
Herbert is the son of Utah County Commissioner Gary Herbert who is currently on the Republican gubernatorial ticket with Jon Huntsman Jr. He had worked on his father's campaign when Herbert was a gubernatorial candidate.
