Utah's homicide laws include:

• Aggravated murder, which carries the potential of the death penalty, life in prison without the possibility of parole or life in prison with the possibility of parole.

• Homicide (first-degree felony) which has a sentence of 5-years-to-life.

• Manslaughter (second-degree felony), which has a sentence of 1-to-15 years in prison.

• Non-intentional homicides (third-degree felony), with a penalty of zero-to-five years.

Utah also has other homicide categories such as negligent homicide, a class A misdemeanor; child-abuse homicide (a second- or even third-degree felony, depending on the state of mind of the defendant), and auto homicide (a second-degree felony).
