New-look Bulldogs hope for success

PROVO — There will be a whole lot of new happening with Provo football this season.

New uniforms and a new logo for the helmets will give the team a new look. More importantly, however, Provo has some young new players and a new coach who is implementing a new offensive philosophy that he believes will also have the team performing in a new way. The Bulldogs were winless last year.

"We've forgotten the past," new head coach Clint Christiansen said. "We're starting a new style of football here and it's exciting for all of us because it's all new."

That style will be mainly a run-oriented game from the veer-option power offense. Senior Rob Argyle and fellow backs Taylor Hope and Taylor Orton should get most of the carries. Sophomore Warner Jarman is battling senior Kylen Zibetti for the quarterback job, and both are dangerous runners as well.

"For the first time I believe Provo's style of football will complement the type of kids we have on our team," Christiansen said. "Everything is fire off the ball, because we have to be able to run the ball before we can throw it."

For Christiansen's power offense to work, he needs a big front line that can move fast. Even though several of his lineman are young, they have the size, strength and qualities that fit Christiansen's game plan.

"We've really focused on having a line that can run. And these guys are quick and I expect them to do big things this season," Christiansen said.

How the Bulldogs will respond to last season's dismal last-place finish is yet to be seen, but Christiansen predicts the Bulldogs will be much better than expected and could surprise a few teams — especially if the players' offseason and preseason work ethic is any indication of their desire to win.

"I tried to break them in training camp and pushed them as hard as I could, but they just kept coming right back at me," he said.
