PROVO The United Way of Utah County Volunteer Center provides a variety of volunteer opportunities to individuals, families and groups throughout Utah Valley.
They include: Alpine House needs volunteers to cook meals for residents, provide musical entertainment and do yard work. Volunteers are also needed to move furniture for new carpet. Volunteers are needed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Orem Nursing and Rehabilitation needs volunteers to "adopt a grandparent" by spending quality time reading or playing games with residents. Volunteers are matched with elderly individuals with similar interests, ensuring a mutually beneficial relationship. Assistance with parties and events is also needed. A brief training session is required.
Youth and Families with Promise needs volunteers to provide stable and caring role models for youth ages 10-14. Volunteers participate in weekly and monthly activities that build skills and confidence for the youth. Volunteers spend one hour each week with a youth playing games, hanging out and participating in activities. Volunteers must be 18 years or older. They will receive training and a background check.
Utah State Hospital needs volunteers to help with the snack shop on Saturdays and Sundays from 1-3 p.m. Volunteers will run the cash register and sell ice cream, candy bars and soda; they will also help with bingo. Volunteers get to know patients and visit with them. Volunteers must be 18 years or older.
Autism Society of Utah needs volunteers to help with the annual autism conference Nov. 11-13. Volunteers will help organize activities and games for participants in the conference.
