Gov. Olene Walker announced this week the appointment of Katharine Bagley Garff to the State Board of Regents, which oversees public higher education in Utah.
Garff, a former chairman of State Board of Education, replaces past regent Charlie Johnson, who former governor and EPA administrator Mike Leavitt asked to be the chief financial officer for the Environmental Protection Agency. Garff's term lasts until June 30, 2009.
The new student regent, a post that changes every year, will be Salt Lake Community College graduate and former SLCC Board of Trustees member Trenton R. Kemp, now a junior at Utah State University.
