As an elected alternate delegate to the upcoming Republican Convention, I was surprised to learn the Matheson brothers neglected to attend their national Democratic convention. In comparison, the Republican convention will be attended by a who's who of the Utah State Republican Party.
The Mathesons want the public to support their Democratic Party candidacies in Utah, yet deliberately distance themselves from the Democratic National Party. Unfortunately for Utah Democrats, you don't get one without the other. Electing Democrats to positions of high public office in Utah comes with inevitable national party baggage. Keep that in mind as you vote in November.
