She was born and reared in Detroit and has been a resident of Cottonwood Heights for 16 years. She has six children, three of them adopted, and is married to Donald L. Harwell, president of The Genesis Group.
Jim Keane, a 17-year resident of Cottonwood Heights, knows it may not take a rocket scientist to govern his favorite city but he does have a degree in aerospace engineering.
Among his goals are: Keep taxes as low as possible; evaluate the experiences of other communities that have recently incorporated; establish strong working relationships with officials from surrounding cities, the county and state; and use an existing building for the new city offices.
Keane said he has the "financial expertise, business skills, political experience, passion and determination to maintain and improve the quality of life we all share here in Cottonwood."
He said he has "extensive experience" in budget management, contract negotiations and working with political leaders, including work as a contract manager with Lockheed, Boeing and the federal government.
"As mayor, I will not serve on any board of directors or community groups that may bias my office," he said. "As mayor, my decisions will not be based solely on influence from corporate entities or groups with political agendas."
