Utah delegates appear on stage in bleachers
No, it wasn't one of the speakers who have filled hours and hours of floor time over the past four days.
But several members of Utah's delegation to the convention were selected to sit on stage in bleachers behind the speakers. Their assignment required them to stay still during their two-hour shifts, something that wasn't always easy.
"I really wanted to reach out and shake their hands, but they told us the Secret Service would jump us," said Barbara Curtis, a delegate from Provo, who was in the front row Monday night when Bill and Hillary Clinton spoke.
Curtis made a second trip to the stage Wednesday and was just a few feet away from John Edwards when the North Carolina senator accepted his party's vice presidential nomination.
Delegates Carlos and Lucy Vasquez also had a turn on stage, as did Salt Lake County Councilman Joe Hatch and his wife, Sandra. Hatch, head of Kerry's campaign in Utah, and his wife had to listen to the presidential nominee's acceptance speech through a screen, though.
