Everyone but God loves to defend or minimize a lie. Friday's article on the Hacking case quoted a psychologist as saying, "Even if a person lies, it doesn't mean he was involved in a wrongdoing."
Lying is wrongdoing.
Where there is lying, confusion and chaos reign. Lying damages both the liar and the listener. When the listener is a child, the damage is especially tragic.
I'm sure the statistics showing a rise in dishonesty correlate quite nicely with the statistics showing a rise in emotional and mental illnesses. No truth is so terrible that a lie is better.
