ELSINORE, Sevier County Health officials are telling city residents to boil water for at least a minute before drinking it after fecal waste was found in the water supply.
Fecal coliform (E. coli) bacteria were found in the Elsinore water supply on July 20, indicating that human or animal waste might have contaminated it. These bacteria can cause serious illness, especially for people who have a compromised immune system, the very young and the very old.
Until further notice, the Central Utah Public Health Department and Elsinore City are telling residents that only bottled or boiled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation.
Residents of River Heights in Cache County remain on a boil alert because of sand contamination.
