Don Garber, commissioner of Major League Soccer, will be in Salt Lake City on Wednesday as part of an official announcement that MLS is awarding an expansion franchise to local businessman Dave Checketts.
Garber and Checketts will make the announcement at 11 a.m. in Rice-Eccles Stadium.
Salt Lake City and another Los Angeles team will join the league for its 2005 season, increasing the circuit from 10 to 12 teams.
Checketts is a former president of the Utah Jazz, New York Knicks and Madison Square Garden. He now owns Sports West Productions.
