Primary results won't get 2nd look
Only the race for the Republican nomination in Senate District 24 qualified for a recount, which can only happen if the vote difference is one vote per precinct or less, state election officials said.
Challenger Darin Peterson, who lost to incumbent Sen. Leonard Blackham, R-Moroni, by 58 votes after absentee ballots were counted in the 89-precinct district, has decided not to ask for a second look at the ballots.
Other legislative races that were tight but fell outside of the qualifying spread for candidates to request a recount were in the Democratic primary for Senate District 1, where Fred Fife defeated Pasa Tukufua for the right to challenge Sen. James Evans, R-Salt Lake; and the Republican primary in House District 5, where Scott Wyatt defeated Rep. Curt Webb, R-Providence.
Both races had approximately a two-vote-per-precinct difference.
