Camp Chef's Utah State Championship Dutch Oven Cook-Off takes place July 17 at The Gateway. From 9 a.m.-2 p.m., 20 amateur chefs will compete by making a main dish, bread and dessert in Dutch ovens. The awards ceremony is 3 p.m. Judges include six former world champion winners. Members of the International Dutch Oven Society will be on hand to answer questions about Dutch oven cooking. The event is sponsored by Camp Chef, Intermountain Farmers Association, Love Sac, Sur La Table, The Gateway, Albertsons and Just In Camping.
The Utah Baker's Dozen will host a bake sale on Saturday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Sugarhouse Park's central terrace to raise money for Share Our Strength. The Utah Baker's Dozen is a group of chefs, caterers and enthusiastic home cooks who share an interest in baking. Share Our Strength is an anti-hunger, anti-poverty organization.
Arctic Circle opened a new location at 38 E. Commerce Drive in Saratoga Springs. The restaurant features a Play Zone area, seats nearly 100 and employs 47 people. The restaurant is managed by Scott Ricks. Originating in Utah, Arctic Circle's operations currently span eight states in the West, with 85 total stores.
The Fifth Annual Share Our Strength's Taste of the Nation takes place Aug. 8 from noon-4 p.m. in Solitude Mountain Resort. More than 45 of Utah's chefs will help raise funds for Utahns Against Hunger and the Utah Food Bank. Diners can sample the many signature restaurant items, including chicken, pork and cheese tamales topped with mole sauces from the Red Iguana; a pistachio dacquoise with plum compote and wild-honey cream from Sundance Resort, as well as a lobster gazpacho with heirloom tomatoes from the Grand Summit at the Canyons, and roasted jalapeno teriyaki baby back ribs from Tsunami. The Baker's Dozen, a group of Utah pastry chefs and home bakers, will provide desserts. Advance tickets are $60 per person or $500 for a package of 10, or $65 at the door.
