The early leader in the rumor mill among the Jazz's four restricted free agents is starting point guard Carlos Arroyo, who seems to have drawn attention from numerous teams since the NBA's summer free-agency market opened Thursday.
The Spanish-language El Nuevo Dia reported Friday that "Miami, Atlanta and Minnesota all expressed interest" in Arroyo, who will play the point for Puerto Rico's entry in next month's Summer Olympics at Athens, Greece.
And with longtime Dallas point guard Steve Nash having agreed to sign a multi-year with Phoenix, the Fort Worth Star Telegram reported Friday that the Mavericks' list of potential targets now "will likely include" Arroyo along with ex-Jazz guard Troy Hudson of Minnesota, Derek Fisher of the Los Angeles Lakers and Keyon Dooling of the Los Angeles Clippers.
One other reportedly possible destination for Arroyo: Orlando.
If Arroyo were to sign an offer sheet from another team July 14 is the earliest he can do so the Jazz would have 15 days to decide whether or not it would match the offer.
That is also the case with Utah's other three restricted free agents, guards Gordan Giricek and Mo Williams and big man Jarron Collins.
SCOUT HIRED: The Jazz on Friday hired Syracuse University assistant coach Troy Weaver as a scout.
Weaver was recruiting coordinator at Syracuse, which won the 2003 NCAA title. His prize catch: Carmelo Anthony, the young Denver Nuggets star who was 2004 NBA Rookie of the Year runner-up behind Cleveland's LeBron James.
Weaver, who has also worked as a college assistant at Pitt and New Mexico, will be based in his hometown area of Washington, D.C.
REVUE PREVIEW: The Jazz plan to sign first-round draft picks Kris Humphries and Kirk Snyder before the start of the upcoming Rocky Mountain Revue summer league, Jazz basketball operations senior vice president Kevin O'Connor said.
Among those expected to join Humphries and Snyder in Revue camp are University of Dayton forward Keith Waleskowski and USC guard Desmon Farmer, both undrafted free agents.
