Phoenix-based Hurley Trucking announced Friday it will take over the distribution operations of the Deseret Morning News and the Salt Lake Tribune.
Distribution was previously handled by the Newspaper Agency Corp. Hurley will act as an independent contractor in distributing the newspapers to several NAC points in the Salt Lake metropolitan area. From there, carriers will continue to deliver the papers to subscribers.
Bob Campbell, vice president of Hurley, said the company was hiring a number of former NAC employees but would not offer a specific number. The company employed 125 people before landing the NAC contract.
The changeover takes place tonight for the Sunday edition papers.
Hurley also distributes the Arizona Republic in the Phoenix area and the Wall Street Journal in Southern California.
