In the first of what is bound to be countless national rumors tying their ample summer spending money to big-name NBA free agents, ESPN's David Aldridge reported Wednesday night that the Jazz "have emerged as surprise suitors" for New Jersey All-Star power forward Kenyon Martin.
Martin is a restricted free agent, meaning the Nets have the right to match any offer made to him. He reportedly is seeking a six-year, $82 million deal.
San Antonio and Denver also reportedly have strong interest, but Martin who averaged 16.7 points and 9.5 rebounds last season has said he wants to stay with the Nets.
Landing him could be a tough task for the Jazz.
"I'm not going to go anywhere where I'd be miserable have a bunch of money but be miserable," Martin told the Newark Star-Ledger in May. "It's not worth my sanity. I'm a sore loser. I don't know if you've noticed."
