Question: What would happen to SkyMiles?
Answer: Probably nothing as long as Delta stayed in business. At worst, fewer flights and routes could translate into fewer opportunities to accrue or redeem mileage. Neither United nor US Airways changed their frequent flier plans during Chapter 11 cases. Some Delta rivals might design bonus offers aimed at enticing frequent fliers.
Question: How would a Chapter 11 case affect service quality?
Answer: Very hard to say. A Chapter 11 case can be demoralizing and may include pay or benefit cuts or other painful changes. On the other hand, service has gotten better at some airlines in Chapter 11 proceedings, as workers become more motivated and management focuses on keeping loyal customers.
Question: How would Delta's bankruptcy affect fares and competition?
Question: Would Delta employees continue to be paid?
Answer: Yes. And certain pre-bankruptcy claims, such as for back pay and unpaid medical expenses, would likely be paid before any other general unsecured claims. The maximum amount of such pre-bankruptcy "priority" claims is $4,650 per employee.
Question: What would happen to Delta's defined benefit pension plan?
