The Landon Donovan quest begins tonight, sort of.
If things fall into place for Utah in the next five days, the Blitzz will advance to the U.S. Open Cup fourth round, and the right to host the San Jose Earthquakes of the MLS on July 20.
First, however, the Blitzz must beat the Portland Timbers of the A-League next Wednesday. That result may hinge largely on how well the Blitzz play tonight in their final tune-up game against the California Gold. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
Utah is 1-0-2 this year against division rival California, but the teams haven't squared off since a 3-0 Utah win on May 8. The Blitzz are 6-5-3 this year, while the Gold are 1-7-4.
