CASPER, Wyo. After dropping three consecutive games to the Casper Rockies, the Provo Angels rallied to earn a 12-4 win over Casper (3-2) on Tuesday, despite committing five errors. Provo returns home today for its 7 p.m. home opener against Idaho Falls at BYU's Miller Park.
Provo (2-3) trailed 4-0 early but tied the game in the seventh and took the lead for good in the eighth inning. Nate Sutton led off the eighth with a walk and later scored on a single by Josh LeBlanc to give Provo a 5-4 lead.
Two batters later J.R. Renz nailed a two RBI double to up the Provo a 7-4 lead. Renz finished with three doubles and five RBIs. Michael Hughes extended the Angels lead to 9-4 with a two-run single in the ninth. Provo added three more runs in the inning to seal the win.
Before Provo took its lead, they scored a run in the fourth and fifth and then tied the game in the seventh. Trailing 4-2, Caleb Maher hit a one-out single. Following a walk by Renz, Mike Perdomo cut the Casper lead to 4-3 after he smacked a RBI double off the right field fence that scored Mahr. Mahr later scored to tie the game on a RBI by Billy Boyer.
