PAYSON Payson has stepped out of UTOPIA.
In a 3-2 vote, Payson's City Council voted not to stay with UTOPIA, the Utah Telecommunication Open Infrastructure Agency.
Council members Colleen Jacobson and Bradley Daley supported staying in the multicity fiber optic network, but Councilmen Larry Skinner, Brent Burdick and Bertis Bills opposed it.
The city had pledged to commit $259,000 in taxpayer funds to it for 20 years. But Bills, clearly the swing vote, said that kind of commitment concerned him.
