OREM The City Council voted unanimously in favor of continuing to develop an agreement with Utah Telecommunication Open Infrastructure Agency Tuesday night.
The agency, also known as UTOPIA, is seeking to develop a municipal-funded high speed telecom network offering Internet, phone and television services to residents of member cities.
The plan has met some opposition from local residents and business representatives from telecom companies Qwest and Comcast, but City Council members said they are willing to take a risk for a benefit to the community.
