OREM The Orem City Council will hold a special meeting tonight to address several pending issues, including the final approval for participating in the Utah Telecommunication Open Infrastructure Agency (UTOPIA).
Though the council voted unanimously in March to pledge more than $2 million in sales tax revenue annually for the next 17 years to participate in the telecommunications system, the matter must still face a public hearing tonight before the city can formally approve an amended financial agreement between the city and UTOPIA.
The meeting will address the results of a recent feasibility study that determined that UTOPIA can be self-funding with the revenue from the project based on the continuation of the 11 pledging cities.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the Orem City Council chambers, 56 N. State.
