I support the City Council in considering axing the budget for speed bumps. I also disagree with John Barnhill's letter calling it a "myth" that speed bumps "divert drivers to other streets." I am one who has been diverted and will continue to be diverted as long as there is a street remaining where there are no bumps. If you support the bumps, try driving a one-ton truck or pulling a trailer over them.
The council shows favor to "less invasive" traffic calming. I agree. If I choose to violate the speed limit, there is already a consequence. A ticket. The solution lies in enforcement of the existing law, not physical forced compliance.
I believe in teaching respect to all who drive in residential areas, as parents of drivers, in driver education, through less invasive traffic calming and through enforcement of the law.
