Ratz put away Wolves
Colin Ortin dwarfed most of the Wolves' defensive talent. scoring his first hat trick of the season on wide-open nets left by the Wolves.
Action heated up in the first half when Colin Ortin struck first for the Ratz scoring on a quality opportunity in front of the goal.
The Wolves would seize the opportunity just a few minutes later when Wolves' striker Manuel Munguia found the back of the net to tie the game with 20 minutes down in the first half. It would be the only shot the Wolves would record in the half.
Ortin continued to score at will, scoring the Ratz's next two goals. The second Ortin goal came on a solid crossing pass from Jordan High alumnus Ryan Hansen in the 29th minute.
Head coach Bob Martin was pleased with Ortin's effort.
"He's shown that he can put all of them in the net," Martin said "He's got a knack for scoring goals."
Ortin, a recent Ogden High graduate, has played big in games before, but his performance Saturday night seemed to surprise even himself.
"The first one was kind of a lucky goal, the others I guess were things just opening up for me. I was surprised." Ortin said.
Ortin completed his hat trick in the 36th minute of the first half on a Shane Curran assist placed in front of the goal that trickled in easily.
The Ratz finished the half comfortably ahead 3-1.
"We started pretty soft, I didn't feel like the competition was really there, but we put it together and played well," Martin said.
The Ratz continued to score at will in the second half while holding the Wolves to very few scoring opportunities and building on their lead.
TJ Waters scored the fourth goal for the Salt Ratz dropping in a well-placed ball from KC Nordfors. Jeff Burt finished off the Wolves with Salt Lake's fifth goal of the match in the 41st minute.
