• BOOK SIGNINGS:

  JACQUELINE LYONS and NATASHA SAJE, local poets from the University of Utah and Westminster College, respectively, will read from their work, Tuesday, 7 p.m., The King's English, 1511 S. 1500 East.

  STEVE MILLER and SHARON LEE, science-fiction authors of "Balance of Trade" and seven other books, will discuss their work and sign copies of their books, Thursday, 7 p.m., Salt Lake City Main Library, 210 E. 400 South.

• LITERARY HONORS:

  MARILYN ARNOLD, Brigham Young University professor emeritus of English and author of five novels since her retirement, has won the Mayhaven Publishing Co.'s annual award in fiction for her new manuscript, "Minding Mama," to be published this year.

  MAURINE HALTINER, Salt Lake City, has won first place as Poet of the Year in the 2004 Utah State Poetry Society Contest, for her collection of poems, "A Season and a Time," to be available for purchase in October. She retains the title of Utah State Poet of the Year through April 2005. SUE RANGLACK, Murray, was awarded second place for her poetry collection, "Shouting From the Book of Orange, and N. COLWELL SNELL, Salt Lake City, won third place for "Hand Me My Shadow."
