The Deseret Morning News on May 13 reported on a fund-raiser for the Lighted Candle Society, which is working to fight "pornography and sex addictions." According to Victor Cline, "Pornography is as addictive as crack cocaine."

I have a background in the social sciences myself, including a B.S. degree in sociology from BYU. I learned that some people have addictive personalities, which makes it easier for them to become unduly attached to all kinds of things. I am probably a "workaholic," and that has contributed to my remaining single. Nevertheless, nobody has suggested that work be prohibited or even be limited by law.

People are addicted to video games, stamp collecting and thousands of other things. Some may need professional help, but what they do not need is the government outlawing whatever it is that happens to be their particular problem. Our inspired Constitution allows us to read and view what we please. Alcohol prohibition did not work, and neither will the prohibition of adult media.
