'Laverne & Shirley' actor to talk about MS

SANDY — Actor David L. Lander, best known as "Squiggy" on TV's "Laverne & Shirley," will talk to people with multiple sclerosis about his own experience with the disease. He was diagnosed with MS in 1984 but hid the disease from the public for 15 years.

To raise awareness of the importance of early and sustained treatment, Lander speaks with groups of people as the ambassador of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. He has written a book called "Fall Down Laughing: How Squiggy Caught Multiple Sclerosis and Didn't Tell Nobody."

The program will also feature Dr. David Renner, an assistant professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Utah School of Medicine. He will talk about the latest in treatments and research.

Lander speaks Saturday at 10 a.m. (registration begins at 9 a.m.) at Jordan Commons, 35 E. 9270 South, Sandy. The program is free and open to the public. The program is sponsored by MS ActiveSource, a Biogen Idec educational program.
