Stephen H. Gunn's comment (May 10) that "The Republican response to a violence-free environment is to replace it with one in which guns can be brought on campus, virtually without restriction" falsely implies that legal possession of concealed firearms increases violence. Honest University of Utah scholars and representatives should be the first to acknowledge that this is patently false and runs contrary to available evidence generated by competent researchers. The fact is that those areas which allow legal possession of concealed arms experience an overall decrease in violence. Unfortunately, when it comes to gun research, political agendas trump truth.

In sum, our real concern is "Gunn violence" to the truth.
