A Salt Lake County official has been reprimanded and given an undisclosed punishment for using his county-owned vehicle for personal use.
Chief financial officer Randy Allen used his county-owned Ford Explorer to twice haul his boat to Lake Powell last year.
High-level employees who use county vehicles full-time are allowed some minimal level of personal use up to 10 percent, said mayoral spokesman Ted Phillips. Allen's trips exceeded that figure.
"He clearly violated the policy, and as someone in his position he should have known that," Phillips said.
Eleven high-level county employees are allowed the use of county vehicles full time. Many other employees drive county vehicles but only after arriving at work in the morning, turning them in before they go home.
