Brush up on Constitution

Sherida Parkinson's letter of April 30 ("Guns on campus a 'right?' ") deserves a rebuttal. She writes: "Art J. VanTielen must be reading a different Constitution . . . I don't see anywhere in the Second Amendment where it gives anyone the 'right' to carry a concealed weapon onto a school campus."

Parkinson is technically correct. However, I don't see anywhere in the Constitution where it "prohibits" anyone from carrying a weapon anywhere they choose.

The fact is, the Second Amendment specifically declares "the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." The right to carry a gun was considered by the Founding Fathers as one of the inalienable rights, endowed upon citizens of this country "by their Creator," to carry and use a weapon to protect their "Life, Liberty and pursuit of Happiness" (Declaration of Independence).

Look again, Ms. Parkinson. Mr. VanTielen is reading the "U.S. Constitution." Which constitution are you reading?
