MANTI — A former science teacher at Wasatch Academy, a private boarding school in Mt. Pleasant, Sanpete County, has been charged with raping two female students.

Ronald Craig Lindberg, 36, of Richfield is facing two counts of rape, two counts of sale or supply of alcohol to a minor and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 18 in 6th District Court in Manti.

Lindberg was arrested March 20 and is free on $50,000 bail.

Mt. Pleasant Police Chief Jim Wilberg said school officials called him to the campus in mid-March to interview a 16-year-old student, who said she was raped while visiting Lindberg on school-related business at his house.

During the investigation, Wilberg learned that another 17-year-old girl had talked about a similar experience but had moved back home to Austin, Texas. Wilberg arranged for Austin police to interview her.

The 17-year-old said Lindberg had engaged in unwanted sexual activity with her five or six times between last November and February. She said she had gone to Lindberg's house seeking help with homework.

Wasatch Academy officials had no comment on the investigation except to say that Lindberg was dismissed from his position with the school last month.
