FARMINGTON Centerville residents can look for a spring 2006 opening of the Centerville Branch Library.
Pete Giacoma, director of the Davis County Library System, presented a design contract to the County Commission that was approved at a cost of $125,838 to design the library expected to cost about $1.34 million. The architectural firm of Cooper Roberts Simonsen will design and oversee construction of the 10,500-square-foot library.
Giacoma did not ask commissioners to approve a contract with a landscaping firm since the library will adjoin a city park, and Giacoma said it is possible the library could use the same landscaping firm as the city, saving the county money.
The library, expected to be under construction by the spring of 2005, will be located near 200 North and 400 West, immediately east of the Super Target store.
The Centerville library will be small but will carry books and other items in high demand, with less than 10,000 items in stock when it opens. However, like the new Syracuse library that opened last year, the Centerville branch will be designed to be nearly doubled in size, up to 16,000 square feet with the capacity of having as many as 65,000 items, Giacoma said.
