The Olympics have come and gone, but the venues are here to stay — and accommodate those looking for something new, different and exciting this summer.

For historians, an exhibit called "America's Skiing Soldiers: A Photographic History of the 10th Mountain Division of World War II," is on display at the Alf Engen Ski Museum at the Utah Olympic Park.

The display is on loan from the Sundance Ski Resort and will be open through May 31.

The 10th Mountain Division was an American army unit that trained in Utah and Colorado for winter and mountain warfare. Many of those members who returned from the war are among the early pioneers in the American ski industry.

It was also announced this week that the summer Big Air Shows in the freestyle splash pool will begin June 19 and run through Sept. 4.

The shows have been a popular summer attraction at the park. The pool is a summer training center for the world's top freestyle athletes. Among those performing in the 750,000-gallon splash pool will be Olympic medalists Eric Bergoust, Joe Pack and Shannon Bahrke. Past Olympians Trace Worthington and Kris "Fuzz" Fedderson will present a choreographed show set to music.

Athletes will jump up to 60 feet in the air, perform a number of twists, spins, flips and rolls, and land, with skis and boots on, in the pool.

The shows will take place on Saturdays.

Parents have until Saturday to take advantage of the "early bird discount" of 10 percent on summer camps for kids ages 8 to 14. The regular cost of the camps is $350. Participants will be able to experience 11 Olympic sports within five days.

Sport activities include biathlon, speed skating (long track and short track), figure skating, curling, luge, freestyle aerials, ice hockey, ski jumping, bobsled and skeleton. The camp locations are the three Olympic legacy facilities at Utah Olympic Park, Soldier Hollow and Utah Olympic Oval.

Camp dates are July 12-16, 19-23, 26-30 and Aug. 2-6. Each camp has a limit of 28 participants.

Beginning next week, horseback trail rides, chuck wagon dinners and wagon rides will be offered at the Soldier Hollow venue in Midway.

Also, the trail system, which in the winter is used for cross country skiing, is open for self-guided mountain bike tours. Individuals can rent bikes and helmets at the venue.

On May 28, summer bobsled rides and the introductory freestyle camps will begin.
