Two entities traveling with a delegation of Utah businesses in China this week are focused on global educational opportunities.
Utah State University and the Academy of Nursing based in Salt Lake City have been meeting with government leaders and educators in Beijing and Shanghai as part of a trade mission sponsored by the state of Utah.
USU partners with three Chinese institutions of higher education in the delivery of degrees on-site in China. They are Jilin University, Changehun; the Northeast China Institute of Electric and Power Engineering, Jilin; and Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing and University City.
USU has several hundred Chinese students attending classes in Logan and several hundred who participate in the university's programs in China.
The nursing academy is hoping to break into the China market with a program designed to bring skilled Chinese nurses to the United States to help ease a nursing shortage. The academy is designed to assist and tutor students in distance learning programs offered by accredited educational institutions.
