LEHI The City Council has approved Mayor Ken Greenwood's recommendation to appoint Gary Sampson as the city's new Justice Court judge.
Sampson, who has been the court administrator for the past year, will replace Leslie Pearce, whose contract was not renewed. Sampson has shown he has the management skills to handle the large load of traffic citations the court hears yearly, Greenwood said.
The appointment now goes to the Utah Judicial Council for consideration. If approved, Sampson will be required to undergo state training before he takes the bench.
Greenwood said it will likely be early June before the judicial council acts on the appointment.
