A father who survived an overdose of heroin that killed the children's mother was charged in connection with the incident.
The man, 43, was charged with endangerment of a child, a second-degree felony, endangerment of a child, a third-degree felony, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor, Thursday in 3rd District Court.
On March 31, a man and a woman overdosed at an apartment near 400 West and 500 North. The woman died on the floor. Paramedics worked on the man and revived him. Numerous syringes and paraphernalia were found around the apartment, charges state.
The couple had two children, ages 8 and 7. They were outside but knew their mother was dead. The boy told an official with the Division of Child and Family Services he removed two syringes from his mother and was pricked by one of the needles, charges state.
