Bramwell strikes out 11 as Timpanogos tops Pleasant Grove
"Even when Ali's off she's still good," Timpanogos coach Randy Richins said. "She wasn't hitting her spots, I didn't feel like. She was pitching from behind a lot more in the count today, but I'll take 11 strikeouts any time."
Bramwell struck out the side in the third and again in the fifth, though she did give up the Vikings' first run that inning before recording the final out. "Ali was good enough to hold on. Even when it's not her best game, I like our chances."
The Timpanogos bats got going in the second inning, aiding Bramwell in her quest for victory. Catcher Bev Pead hit a line drive single up the middle to start off the inning and went to second on a wild pitch. Jennifer Harris then followed up with a walk, and Liz Thompsen moved the runners to second and third when she laid down the sacrifice bunt. The first Timpanogos run crossed the plate when Maddie Thomas beat out the throw for her first of two singles on the night, and another wild pitch sent her to second. Then freshman third baseman Tajia Law stood at the plate with one out and singled in two runs, recording the game-winning RBI and giving Timpanogos the 3-0 lead.
The Vikings heated up in the fifth inning as Marti Francom singled to right field for the first Pleasant Grove hit of the game, ruining the no-hitter Bramwell had going through four. The next two batters struck out before Meagan Merrill singled to center field and a Timpanogos error scored Francom from first. Bramwell then finished them off with her tenth strikeout.
