D. Z. PHILLIPS, author of "The Problem of Evil and the Problem of God" and professor of philosophy and religion at Claremont Graduate University, will speak as part of the series of Westminster Tanner-McMurrin Lectures on the History and Philosophy of Religion, Thursday, 7 p.m., Gore Business Auditorium, Westminster College, 1840 S. 1300 East.

50 BOOKS, 50 COVERS, a nationally juried exhibition will be shown Thursday, 5:30-7 p.m., Special Collections, Fifth Floor, University of Utah Marriott Library. Sponsored by the library's Book Arts Program. These are current books judged to be best in design, and they include Donna Tart's "The Little Friend" and Nell Freudenberger's "Lucky Girls."

ROBERT PINSKY, 39th U.S. poet laureate and professor at Boston University, will read from his poetry Thursday, 11:30 a.m., Special Collections, Stewart Library, Weber State University, Ogden. KEN BREWER, Utah poet laureate, will read from his work, Friday, 10 a.m., same location. LAURA FURMAN, novelist and English professor, University of Texas, will read from her work, Friday, 3-4 p.m. These three events are part of the 19th annual National Undergraduate Literature Conference, April 1-3. ALICE NOTLEY, poet, and LAWRENCE SUTIN, nonfiction writer, will read from their work Thursday, 7 p.m., Art Barn, 1325 E. 100 South in Reservoir Park. Sponsored by City Arts.

RAINBOW ABEGG, author of "Mom, Are You There?" will sign copies of her book Saturday, 6-8 p.m., Deseret Book, University Mall, Orem.

JOANN JOLLEY, author of "That We Might Have Joy," written with Lucille Johnson, will sign copies of her book Saturday, 6-8 p.m., Deseret Book, 989 S. University Ave., Provo.
