The chapter president of a local motorcycle club was arrested Sunday night after a former member was shot, according to police.

New details of the shooting were released Monday afternoon. Robert H. Daniels, 59, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of attempted criminal homicide.

Daniels, the chapter president of the Bandidos Motorcycle Club, got into an argument at the Barbary Coast Saloon, 4242 S. State, with a man who recently became a member, said Salt Lake County Sheriff's Sgt. Rosie Rivera. The man apparently was not following the rules of the club or "respecting the leaders," she said.

The man, reportedly unhappy with his membership anyway, tore the club patches off his shirt, called "rockers," and quit, Rivera said.

The dispute resumed later that night at Daniels' home near 1200 West and 4300 South, Rivera said.

Daniels says the man tried to punch him in the mouth right before Daniels allegedly shot him, she said.

The man, whose name was not released Monday, was flown to University Medical Center in critical condition although Rivera said doctors expected he would live.
